Marcus Boyd
A
lot has changed in a year for North Crowley's Marcus Boyd. He has come from
being a virtual unknown to the heavy favorite to pick up some gold hardware
in May. Earlier this year, Boyd competed at the Indoor Scholastic Championships
in New York where he walked away as the national champ in the 400. He is currently
ranked 1st in the state in the 400 (46.97) and the 200 (20.56). He is also
ranked 2nd in the state in the 100 (10.42). Next year he will be representing
the Bears of Baylor University. Let's go one on one with North Crowley's Marcus
Boyd.
Inside Texas Track (ITT) Tell us about your earliest memory of track and field.
Marcus Boyd (MB) When I was 4 years old when they shot the gun, instead of running straight, I ran off the track.
(ITT) You have specialized in the 400 in the past. You are now running the 100 and 200 meters. What brought on this change of pace?
(MB) I just wanted to see what I could do in all the other events before I go down to Baylor.
(ITT) Of the three, which one would you say is your strongest event?
(MB) The 200, because I have run one of the top times ever in the race.
(ITT)Which
one is your favorite?
(MB) The 400, becauseI like the competition I get, plus I guess I like being tired after a race.
(ITT)When running the 400, what are you thinking about the last 100
meters?
(MB) I think about finishing strong and not getting caught.
(ITT)What is your greatest moment in track and field?
(MB) Running the 20.56 at the Duncanville meet earlier this year.
(ITT)What are your goals for 2007?
(MB) Winning state and winning the Nike Outdoor Nationals
(ITT)Baylor Bears!!! Why Baylor and what other schools did you consider?
(MB) I chose Baylor because they have one of the strongest 400 meter programs in the country. I chose Baylor over the University of Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M.
(ITT)What has been your most embarrassing moment in track and field?
(MB) Besides me running off the track, I would have to say last year when I ran a 50 point in the 400.
(ITT)Who
is responsible for your success in track and field?
(MB) My dad for pushing me and telling me to never quit what I do.
(ITT)Name 1 way to improve track and field?
(MB) Take out the steriods
