Southlake Carroll's
Colby Lowe

When one thinks about Southlake Carroll, the first thing to pop up is football. They are the three time state champion in 5A, only losing one game in a 4 year stretch. That one lost was in a state championship game. They are also know for producing some of the state's top track and field and cross country athletes. Colby Lowe fits right into that mold. Lowe won his first individual state cross country title this past season. Last year at state as a sophomore, Lowe displayed a strategic game plan as he claimed the 3200 state title. A junior this year, Lowe sets his eyes on another title. Let's go One-on-One with Southlake Carroll's Colby Lowe.

Inside Texas Track (ITT)What are your events and your personal best times in each one?
Colby Lowe (CL) 3200 - 9:14, 1600 - 4:14

(ITT) Which one do you prefer Cross Country or Track and Field? Why?
(CL) Ooh, that's a hard question. I like both. In cross country you get to run a longer distance. And in cross country you get run in this open field and that's what cool about that. In track you get a chance to run in front of a lot of people. I can't choose which one I like best.

(ITT) How did you get started with running long distances?
(CL) In middle school I just went out and tried it and figured I could do it if I put some hard work into it. That's kinda how it all got started.

(ITT)How fast do you think you could run 100 meters?
(CL) Oh Goodness, I'm going to take a stab in the dark here, maybe a 12.4 or 12.5.

(ITT)What thoughts go through your mind when you are competing in the 3200?
(CL) Run smart, run hard, and give it everything I got.

(ITT) Do you have any pre race ritual you go through before any of your races and if so what are they?
(CL) Just stretch and run...warm-up. That's about it.

(ITT)What has been your greatest accomplishment in track and field?
(CL) Probably, getting to state as a sophomore. That's probably my biggest accomplishment.

(ITT)When it is not cross-country or track and field season, how often do you run?
(CL) Every single day!!

(ITT)What are your goals for 2007?
(CL) Just improve on some things. try to do better this year than last year. Just work on some thing to get that time lowered.

(ITT)Who is responsible for your success in track and field?
(CL) I got teammates, coach, my parents behind me cheering each step of the way. Showing me their support.

(ITT)Name 1 way to improve track and field?
(CL) Maybe have some longer distances for high school track. Maybe a 3 mile. Put some to the test and see who can outlast who and go out and have some fun.
