Beaumont freshman starts state career with gold!!!
Beaumont
Ozen's A'Lexus Brannon has had her share of big time track meets. Brannon
is a regular during the summer at the Jr. Olympics so she knows a little something
about performing big in big meets. She also know a little about how to handle
pressure in big meet situations. That was the case for her during the 4A long
jump competition. She started the competition with a jump of 18-11 on her
first attempt. She admits that she was little nervous before the competition
began. "When I first came, I was a little nervous, but
on my first jump I jump 18-11. It felt pretty good" stated Brannon. After
that opening jump, Brannon was able to relax and focus on her speed and technique.
Tai'Shea Reese of Kilgore made things interesting for the young freshman when
she took the lead with a jump of 19-3. So how would Brannon respond to the
pressure? She came back and jumped a personal best of 19-5 1/2. Brannon is
no stranger to pressure. "Well I've been doing it so long the pressure
didn't bother me. It actually helped me because I said to myself that I got
to bring it now" said Brannon. She was able to do just that in capturing
her first U.I.L State Title.
