Texas Relays...CANCELLED!!!

With temperatures down in the 40's along with a steady rain, many high school and college teams felt best not competing on the final day of the Texas Relays. Throughout the finals today, many lanes were empty. Most of the top runners in the state wanted to prevent injury before district week started, decided to pull their athletes on the final day. "I asked the girls did they want to run. They responded that they did not, so we are on our way back home" stated one of the high school coaches leaving the parking garage at the Mike Myers Stadium.

IMPRESSIVE!!!

Although the weather was not favorable, some of the state top athletes were in attendance. Copperas Cove's Robert Griffin stayed and competed in the 110 hurdles. Being pushed every step of the way by Tatum's Darnius Moore, Griffin was able to collect the gold medal, winning the event in a time of 13.89. Griffin was pleased with his victory but wished the competition was there. "It feels good to be here, but I wish the others would've been here that I've been competing against for the last three years" said Griffin. Moore finished second with a time of 13.99. Also staying for some fun in the rain was Killeen's Tiffany Townsend. She wowed the crowd on Friday with her preliminary performance in the 100 with a time of 11.26. Townsend returned on Saturday to compete in the finals. Townsend was excited about her victory. "It's great. I didn't warm up or anything. I just came out here and ran" stated Townsend. The future Baylor Bear was able to hold off, last year's 5A state champion, Erica Alexander for the win. Her winning time was 11.96.
