Skyline looking strong for another State Title...
Skyline will be heading into the 2007 State Meet with something they have not had in a long time...opportunity points in the field events. In the past, the Lady Raiders have relied on the strength of their running to win a state title. This year they will have a competitor in the triple jump and the shot put. Danielle Miller got things started for Skyline by winning the shot put and advancing to state. In the triple jump, it was Charaschie Lockhart edging out Klein Forest's Ke'Undra Bishop with a jump of 39-2 3/4. That jump was a personal best for Lockhart. Skyline will be represented in all three relays this year. The drama came in the 4x100 where Skyline saw it's lead evaporate at the hands of Kirsten Harris of College Station A&M Consolidated. On the final leg, Skyline's April Williams had a three meter lead when Harris got the stick. Harris kicked it into another gear to walk down and past Williams for the win. A&M's winning time of 46.17 is a season best, and is currently ranked second in the state behind Mansfield Timberview's 46.16. Williams took out her frustrations in her marquee events, the 100 and 300 hurdles. Williams cruised to a fourth regional title in the 100 hurdles, but her performance in the 300 hurdle was nothing short of amazing. Her winning time of 41.91 currently places her first in the state. With wins in the 4x200 and the 4x400 relays, the Lady Raiders come into the state meet with state team title topping the agenda.

Klein Forest will be relay strong heading to Austin...
The strategy of Klein Forest's coach looked to have paid off for his team. Forest made a commitment to all relays and will be participating at state in all the three relays. Forest started their road to state by placing 2nd in the 4x100 relay to Garland. Garland's winning time of 40.92 makes them a strong favorite in two weeks. Klein Forest got its revenge in the 4x200 by winning the event in a new regional record time of 1:24.55. The previous record only lasted a day as Garland set the record in the prelims with a time of 1:24.71. Garland placed second with a time of 1:24.92. During the last event, the 4x400 relay, Forest was able to keep up with Skyline and place second behind them for a trip to Austin. Klein Forest also got a first place victory from Mark Barnes in the 100.

SURPRISE!!!
Plano West's Alex Pegram came into the finals of the 100 meters tied with the 4th best time from the prelims. She walked away from the finals as the 100 meter champion. "I'm Speechless, I'm so happy" stated the Jr. from Plano West about her victory. From the start it was a close battle. About 70 meters into the competition it was anybody's race. The last 20 meters, Pegram was able to pull up and take the lead. "She has a good start and a great finish. About 20 meters she came up out of the middle of the pack. I am so proud of her" said her coach, Colleen Thorton. Those last 20 meters proved to be the deciding factor as Pegram came away with the win in a time of 11.85. "In the end it was all about heart, and I wanted more than anybody out there" Pegram said.
