Lancaster Does It Again
They just keep winning at Lancaster. The Lancaster Tigers extends the streak to 7 in a row. Coach Beverly Humphries and her Lady Tigers came down to Austin and put on a clinic. In the 4x100, they were able to take a demanding lead on the first leg and never looked back. Their winning time of 46.14 ranks then first in the state. Sr. Tenaya Jones successfully defended her title in the 100 meter hurdles, winning in a time of 13.85. The 4x200 ended with a season best for the Lady Tigers. Their winning time of 1:37.18 currently ranks them 2nd in the state, behind Mansfield Timberview. Jr. Ashley Starks upgraded her hardware in the 300 hurdles. Last year Starks placed 2nd in the event. This year she came out like a woman on a mission, blasting over the hurdles. She actually crashed into one of the hurdles, but was able to maintain her balance and keep running for the gold medal. Her winning was 42.60. Jr. Tiara Miller placed third in the 800 to add some state hardware to her collection. In the final event, the 4x400 relay, Lancaster was able to pull away from the competition after an incredible 3rd leg from Jr. Tiara Sims. Jr. Teegan Hill was able to cruise the anchor leg and bring home the gold for Lancaster.

The Fastest We Have Ever Seen!!!Lancaster might have won their 7th state title, but the night definitely belonged to Killeen's Tiffany Townsend. She has been running fast times all year, but on Friday night, what she did was simply amazing. Townsend got her night started in the 100 meters. The winds had died down as the start of the race began. At sound of the, Wheatley's Dominique Duncan shot out of the blocks to take an early lead. At the 50 meter mark, Townsend threw on some jets and took off. When the dust had cleared, Townsend's winning time was 11.21. She broke the previous state record of 11.28 held by Marshevette Hooker. "It feels good" stated Townsend when asked about her time. When she was informed that it was a legal time, she dropped to her knees and yelled "Yes!! It's about time" Her night of breaking records was not over. In the 200, she came around the curve and put on those same jets down the straight-away. What showed on the score board at Mike Myers had the whole crowd in awe. 22.84. Townsend couldn't hold back the tears as she celebrated her second gold medal. Her winning time breaks the long standing record of 23.04 held by La Shon Nedd of Dallas Skyline back in 1981.

Griffin Leads Copperas Cove to Team Victory
Robert Griffin put his name into the record books twice on Friday night. Griffin got things started in the 110 hurdles. Lined up in lane 8, Griffin exploded out of the blocks attacking each hurdle. Once the race was over the scoreboard read 13.06. When the final results was posted, they had Griffin at a 13.55. Disappointed by the time, Griffin was proud to be a state champion. "I thought the time was faster, but I happy to say I am a state champion" stated Griffin. His second performance of the night ranks him as the second best of all time. In the 300 hurdles, Griffin ran away from the competition, literally. Griffin was in lane 9 and blasted over the hurdles. When it was all over and done with, the time on scoreboard revealed that he broke the current state record of 35.47 held by Kerron Clements of LaPorte and just missed the national record of
35.32 by one thousand of a second. His winning time was 35.33. Cove also got some big points when the 4x200 was able to go out and win that event. Triple jumper Troy Vital added 6 points by placing 3rd in the event. In the night's final event, the 4x400, Griffin was unable to make up the huge lead by Lancaster on the final leg to get the win. Griffin was able to pick off Worthing for the silver medal. Cove won the 4A team title with 68 points.
